Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandra Sekhar Rao decided to run the state government under taking TSRTC with 50:50 public, private participation. He took the decision on the ongoing strike of the workers of TSRTC since three days. Chief Minister KCR took the public and private participation decision on the report of transport principal secretary Sunil Sharma, which he had submitted to the CM on Monday evening at Pragathi Bhavan.

After reviewing the report of Sunil Sharma, CM KCR said that the state does not want to privatize RTC but only wanted to strengthen it. He also said that the employees, who are on the strike, not care the order of the government to resume duties on or before 06:00pm on Saturday. Those who are not resumed the duties are treated as self dismissed.

It was stated that of the RTC’s estimated fleet strength of 10,400 buses, the corporation owns only about half, or 5,200. These would be run under the RTC banner and be staffed by the corporation. Another 30 percent, or 3,100 buses, of the RTC fleet is already under hire. A CMO statement said that of this 30 percent, nine percent buses would need to be replaced to make up the numbers.

This group of buses would be staffed by private parties, and the vehicles can use RTC infrastructure such as parking. The other 20 percent buses, or 2,100, would be run and maintained entirely by private parties and would be run as stage carries.
