Ankit, Kalaivani clinched gold for India in SAG

Kathmandu: Indian athletes clinched 42 medals on the 8th day of SAG at Kathmandu on Monday. The Indian athletes bagged 27 Gold, 12 Silver and 3 Bronze medals on Monday.

   Indian athletes stood first the medals tally list with 294 medals (159 Gold, 91 Silver and 44 Bronze medals), Nepal is in second place in the medals tally with 195 medals (49 Gold, 54 Silver and 92 Bronze). Srilanka stood third place in the medals tally with 236 medals (39 Gold, 79 Silver and 118 Bronze medals. Boxers gave India the maximum medals on Monday with 6 Gold and 1 Silver. National Champion Ankit Khatana (Men’s 75 Kg), Vinod Thanwar (Men’s 49 Kg), Sachin (Men’s 56 Kg) Gourav Chavan (Men’s 91 Kg), Kalaivani Srinivasan (Women’s 41 Kg) and Parveen (Women’s 60 Kg) bagged Gold each.

    In Wrestling Indians won both Gold on Monday, with Gourav Baliyan and Anitha Sheoran registering comfortable victories in Men’s 74 Kg and Women’s 68 Kg respectively. Three Indian fencers won Gold medals and also Indian fencers sweeped 11 Gold medals out of 12 in the discipline. Indians also clean sweeped in Kabaddi and Basket Ball 3×3 also as the Men’s and Women’s teams in the both the disciplines won gold each. In the shooting discipline, the shooters Anuraj Shinga and Shravan Kumar won a gold medal in the air pistol mixed event. The Indian shooters completely dominated the shooting range by winning 18 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze medals. The Indian Women’s football team won their third consecutive gold medal at SAG by defeating hosts Nepal 2-0 in the summit clash on Monday.
