High Court cancels Chidambaram Anticipatory bail
New Delhi: Delhi High Court rejected a plea of former Union Finance Minister Chidambaram’s anticipatory bail on Tuesday. The CBI and ED officials opposed granting of anticipatory bail t o Chidambaram in Court. Chidambaram is facing allegations of receiving kick backs by his son Karti Chidambaram in the case of INX media in exchange of foreign funds to the tone of Rs. 305 crores in 2007.
He was the Union Finance Minister in the UPA-1 Government at that time. He is facing allegations that were instrumental in providing Government clearance to INX media to receive foreign funds. Chidambaram denied all allegations, saying that he is being targeted by the BJP Government for political reasons. His legal team has also challenged the High Court’s order in the Supreme Court. The High Court granted him interim anticipatory bail in the case last year. But today the Court cancelled the interim anticipatory bail, which granted in the last year.
The investigating agencies CBI and ED questioned Chidambaram several times, but not get response. So they want to interrogate Chidambaram in the custody.
