Kerala Assembly passed a resolution scrap CAA

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to scrap the CAA in the state. The CPI led Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government moved a resolution on Tuesday to scrap the CAA implementation in the state.

The resolution was unanimously passed by the LDF and the opposition UDF in the 140 members Assembly. Only one BJP member O. Raja Gopal opposed the resolution saying it “Anti-Constitution”. Union Law Minister Ravi Shanker Prasad said that no state Assembly can surpass the act passed by the Parliament. The Central Government rejected the resolution passed by the Kerala Assembly, saying that the Parliament is vested with the powers to frame and pass laws in connection with citizenship. The Union Law Minister in a press conference at New Delhi said that he will urge the Chief Minister P. Vijayan again to kindly have a better legal advice.

He explained the Centre’s perceptive on CAA. Kerala Chief Minister P. Vijayan moved the resolution in a special session of the Assembly and opposition leader Ramesh Chinnithala seconded it. CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechuri congratulated the Kerala Assembly for passing the resolution. DMK Chief Stalin urged the Tamil Nadu Government to pass a resolution against CAA.
