Lives of Gandhi’s put at risk: Congress leader Choudary
New Delhi: Congress members raised the Government’s move to down grade the security cover provided to Sonia Gandhi family, on Tuesday in the Lok Sabha for the second consecutive day. The Congress members accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP Government of playing revenge politics that was putting their lives at risk.
Parliament Speaker Om Birla rejected the Congress members notice of adjournment motion on the withdrawn of the SPG cover to the Sonia Gandhi family. The party’s leader Adhir Ranjan Choudary raised the issue in Zero Hour. The Parliamentary Affairs State Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal tried to stop Choudary, said he cannot raise the issue in Zero Hour. Since he has not given a notice in this regard. The Congress and DMK MPs walkout of the house in protest of the Ministers words. The Choudary said that withdrawn of SPG cover of Gandhi’s is a serious issue and their life is in danger. Earlier this month the Government withdrawn SPG cover to Sonia Gandhi’s family and was put and were placed under Z+ security cover provided by the CRPF. Delhi police is incharge of control of access to the residence of Sonia and Rahul. And also, instead of special bullet proof vehicle to the Gandhi family, have been provided with ten year old Tata Safaris.
Under SPG protection, Sonia and Priyanka were using range rowers with ballistic resistance and Rahul Gandhi was using fortuner. As per the sources the CRPF has requested the SPG to allow armoured vehicle for the Gandhi’s, but there has no response yet. The family was given SPG cover after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassinated by LTTE terrorists on May 21st 1991. The Government sources have attributed the down grade to a lower threat perception for the family.
