Mumbai: Mumbai police said a woman (34) was raped and brutally assaulted in suburban Sakinaka inside a stationary tempo on Friday. The police said her condition was said to be serious. According to the doctors bloodstains were also found inside the vehicle and the woman’s condition was serious, said police.

The police arrested the accused Mohan Chouhan (45) within a few hours of the incident, said police. according to the police source the police control room received a call in the early hours of Friday that a man was thrashing a woman on Khairani Road.

A police team rushed to the spot to find a woman lying in a pool of blood. She was taken to the civic run Rajawadi hospital, said one officer. As per the preliminary investigation, she had been raped and assaulted with an iron rod in her private parts, he said, adding that the incident had taken place inside a tempo parked on the roadside. The case is under investigation.
