PM Reviews Covid-19 Vaccine Today: Zydus, Bharat Biotech, Serum Institute

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive Hyderabad on Saturday to visit Bharat Bio-Tech, which is working on Covaxin, pitched as India’s first indigenous vaccine candidate. Cyberabad police commissioner VC Sajjanar told that the Prime Minister was expected at 3:40 pm and after a visit to the facility between 4 and 5 pm, he would fly out at 5:40 pm.

Earlier on Saturday morning, Modi will visit visit pharma major Zydus Cadila’s plant near Ahmedabad today to get information about the development of its Covid-19 vaccine. Zydus Cadila’s plant is situated at Changodar industrial area near Ahmedabad city. The pharmaceutical had earlier announced that the phase-I clinical trial of its Covid-19 vaccine candidate, ZyCoV-D, has been completed and it has commenced phase-II clinical trials from August.

An official said that the Prime Minister is likely arriving at the plant at around 9:30 am. The Prime Minister’s Office also tweeted about PM Modi’s visit today to 3 vaccine plants. PM Narendra Modi will embark on a 3 city visit to personally review the vaccine development & manufacturing process. He will visit the Zydus Biotech Park in Ahmedabad, Bharat Biotech in Hyderabad & Serum Institute of India in Pune. PM Modi is expected to visit Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII), which has partnered with global pharma giant AstraZeneca and the Oxford University for a Covid-19 vaccine.
