Pranab Mukherjee put on ventilator after brain clot surgery

New Delhi: Former President Pranab Mukherjee was put on ventilator support on Monday after undergoing surgery for removal of a clot in his brain. He was also tested positive for Covid- 19.

According to the Army Research and Referral Hospital, the few hours after surgery would be critical as there is need for ventilator support that may not have been required if he was not Covid- 19 +ve. Pranab Mukherjee (84) in a tweet on Monday said that on a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested +ve for Covid- 19 today.

I request the people who came into contact with me in the last week, to please self- isolate and get tested for Covid- 19. Sources said the former President is critical.

He needed to be put on ventilator during the surgery for the removal of the clot in his brain. Defense Minister Raj Nath Singh visited the Army hospital and enquired about the former President’s health on Monday during the day. Raj Nath Singh was at the hospital around 20 minutes. Congress Chief Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, along with several of his party colleagues, wished Pranab Mukherjee who was a Congress leader for years, as speedy recovery.
