Rajasthan Congress Sniffs Toppled Plot: Chief Whip Asked ACB Investigation

Jaipur: The Rajasthan Assembly chief whip Mahesh Joshi directed the anti-corruption bureau chief on Wednesday seeking investigation into charges of inducement being offered to his party MLAs. He however did not name any party or people behind the alleged move.

The Rajasthan Congress convened a meeting of its MLAs and its supporting independent MLAs on Wednesday at a resort ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections due to June 19. It expressed apprehenses of a plot to destabilize the congress government in the state.

That congress MLAs were being approached with attractive offers by some political people, said a party senior. Congress Chief Whip in his complaint to ACB DG said we have received information from reliable sources that after Karnataka, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, congress MLAs and supporting MLAs to the government are being offered inducements as part of a design to destabilize the elected state government.

He also urged the Congress MLAs to come to the CM’s official residence at 8 civil lines. Later the Congress MLAs were shifted in different buses to a posh resort on the outskirts of Jaipur. The congress central members, including party chief spoke person Randeep Singh Surjewala and AICC incharge of Rajasthan Vivek Bansal reached Jaipur in the evening.

In the Rajasthan assembly there are 200 members, out of that congress is having 107 MLAs including six who depicted to the party from BSP last year. The state is going to three members for Rajya Sabha polls. Each member required 51 preferential votes as per the strength of the MLAs the congress will get to and one Rajya Sabha seat to BJP. But out of three Rajya Sabha seats which are going to polls in June, congress fielded two members as per their strength, but the BJP fielded two members instead of getting one.
