Sad Day For Democracy, Says Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal whose government has been fighting tooth and nail against the bill called it a ‘sad day for democracy’. The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021 that seeks to make it clear that the “government” in Delhi means the “Lieutenant Governor” was passed by Lok Sabha on March 22.

Earlier, Rajya Sabha witnessed uproar by opposition members who termed the bill as “unconstitutional” and demanded that it be sent to a Select Committee for scrutiny. The upper house also witnessed two brief adjournments. The members of the BJD, SP and the YSR-Congress also walked out of the House.
