Sara Abdullah challenged her brother Omar’s detention under PSA

New Delhi: The Supreme Court agreed to hear the plea, challenging the detention of former Chief Ministers Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah under public safety act. Sara Abdullah Pilot, sister of Omar Abdullah filed a Writ petition on Monday challenging the detention of her brother Omar Abdullah.

A Supreme Court bench headed by Justice N.V. Ramana agreed to listing of the plea by Sara Abdullah on the request of Senior Council Kapil Sibal seeking an urgent listing. Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah and other senior Kashmiri leaders are under detention since August 5, 2019, under the instructions of the Central and State Administrations under PSA.

The detentions following the Abrogation of Article 370 and Bi-furcation of the state into two Union Territories J &K and Ladakh. She also sought quashing of the February 5, 2020 order detaining Omar Abdullah under the PSA. She is describing the detention as illegal in her petition. She also said in the petition that the grounds for the detention order are wholly lacking any material facts or particulars which are imperative for an order of detention. Both Farooq and Omar Abdullah rendered public service as CM, Union Ministers and MPs. They stood by the National aspirations of India are perceived as a threat.
