46 Gates of Nagarjuna Sagar Lifted

Hyderabad: Heavy rains and floods in Maharashtra, Karnataka states since 10 days, the river Krishna moving towards sea in a spate through the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

          Andhra Pradesh is the last state to the river Krishna before going to the “Bay of Bengal” sea. The major dams in Andhra Pradesh Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar are received at the mark of FRL. Due to the heavy floods from Jurala project 10,000CU inflow and at Nagarjuna Sagar will release 7000CU of water to the down by lifting its 46 crest gates of the project on Sunday.

           The project authorities opened 10 gates at 10:00am on Sunday and at 03:00pm they opened all 46 gates. The people of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were going to the dam sides in a very large number of gathering to see the water. The roads near Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar are caused traffic jam nearly 5 to 10kms. The Nagarjuna Sagar officials released the water to pulichintala project. One person died in the flood waters on Sunday.   

            The full water levels in Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam is the first time in 2019. The last full storage in the dams is 2009, said the dam officials.
