Union Government Announces Seven days mourning on demise of former President Pranab Mukherjee

New Delhi: The Union Government announced seven day state mourning on the demise of Former President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday. The Ministry of Home affairs in a statement said the state mourning will be observed from 31st August to 06th September.

 

The National Flag will at half – mast on Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament Bhavan and all government office buildings across India and added that there is no official entertainment. It is known that former President Pranab Mukherjee passed away on Monday while undergoing the treatment from the past few days at Army Research & Referral Hospital, New Delhi. The last rites will be performed today in New Delhi.

The Bangladesh government also announced mourning days in Bangladesh as the respect of Former President Pranab Mukherjee. The Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tributes and expressed grief on the demise of Pranab in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Condolences:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet said heartfelt tribute to Pranab Mukherjee on Monday, minutes after the former President’s death was announced, saying he had been “blessed” to receive support and guidance from Mukherjee when he became Prime Minister in 2014 and was “new to Delhi”.

Praising him as a “scholar par excellence.. a towering statesman” and someone who was admired across party lines, PM Modi said Mukherjee’s loss would be felt deeply by the nation. “India grieves the passing away of Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee. He has left an indelible mark on the development trajectory of our nation. A scholar par excellence, a towering statesman, he was admired across the political spectrum and by all sections of society,” Modi tweeted.

“I was new to Delhi in 2014. From Day 1, I was blessed to have the guidance, support and blessings of Shri Pranab Mukherjee. I will always cherish my interactions with him. Condolences to his family, friends, admirers and supporters across India. Om Shanti,” the Prime Minister said in a series of four tweets.

Mamatha Benarjee:

         West Bengal Chief Minister Mamatha Benarjee in a tweet said on Monday about Former President Pranab Mukherjee, for decades he was a father figure. She expresses her condolences at the death of the Former President Pranab Mukherjee; it is with “deep sorrow I write this Bharat Ratna Pranab Mukherjee has left us. And an era has ended.”

Mamata Benerjee’s association with Pranab Mukherjee began when she was in the Congress. “From my first win as MP to being my senior Cabinet colleague to his becoming President while I was CM,” Mamatha wrote in an emotional tweet.
