Youth protests against CAA across India

New Delhi: Students, activists, citizens, writers, opposition parties, artists and film stars came out in large numbers as the rage and anger against the CAA poured out on the streets across the nation on Thursday, to register their protest against the law they view as an attempt to divide India on communal lines.

   Most protests were peaceful, but in some places including Mangaluru, Lucknow, Ahmedabad and Patna were public turned into violent. Public property was vandalized and police was pelted with stones. Police lathi charged to disperse the mob and fired tear gas shells and even started firing in the air. Large numbers of security and police officials were deployed in several cities.

   In Lucknow media OB vans and police vehicles being set on fire, where Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath said the police has been asked to deal with protesters strictly and incidents of arson were also reported. The Centre and State Governments of BJP ruled Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka imposed 144 CRPC section and heavy security bandobast in anticipation of Thursday’s protests.
