Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy and CP Radhakrishnan are contesting for the post of Vice-President of India: polling on Sept. 9th

Hyderabad: Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy (79) contesting as independent candidate and Maharashtra former Governor CP Radhakrishnan (68) as BJP candidate for the post of Vice-President of India.

The Vice-Presidential elections will be scheduled on September 09th, at room no F101 in the first floor at Parliament Bhavan in New Delhi. Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha MPs including nominated members will cast their vote to elect Vice-President.

In Lok Sabha there are 543 MPs but now 542 members are in the house. Out of this 293 BJP and NDA alliance and 237 Congress and its INDI alliance casting their votes. YSRCP have 4 MPs and BJD have 2 MPs in Lok Sabha backing the NDA candidate. YSRCP have 7 MPs in Rajya Sabha and BJD have 7 MPs in Rajya Sabha backing the NDA alliance candidate.

AAP and BSP are supporting INDI alliance candidate, out of AAP have 3 MPs in Lok Sabha and 9 MPs in Rajya Sabha. BSP is having only one MP in Rajya Sabha. INDI alliance INC having 99 MPs in Lok Sabha and 27 MPs in Rajya Sabha. DMK is having 22 MPs in LS and 10 MPs in RS.  TMC is having 28 MPs in LS and 13 MPs in RS. SP is having 37 MPs in LS and 4 MPs in RS. NCP (SP) is having 8 MPs in LS and 4 MPs in Rs.

MLAs and MLCs of State Assemblies have no right to cast their vote in Vice – Presidential election.

BJP and its NDA alliance candidate CP Radhakrishnan was born on 20th October 1957, Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu. He graduated BBA from V.O. Chidambaram College in Thoothukudi. He joined in RSS at the age of 16. He was elected to the Jan Sangh State Executive Committee in 1974. Later he joined BJP in 1980. He was elected twice to Lok Sabha from Coimbatore in 1998 and 1999. He worked as a BJP President in Tamil Nadu from 2004 to 2006 and he was served as Chairman of Coir Board of India 2016 to 2020.

Later he was appointed as Governor of Jharkhand in 2023 and 2024 he was appointed as Governor of Maharashtra. He was also acted as incharge Governor of Telangana and Puducherry.

The independent and INDI alliance candidate Justice B Sudarshan Reddy is contesting for the post of Vice-Presidential election. He was born on July 8, 1946, to a agriculture family in Akula Mylaram village of then Ibrahimpatnam taluka in the Rangareddy district of present in Kandukur Mandal in Telangana.

He graduated law degree from Osmania University in Hyderabad in 1971 and was enrolled as an advocate with the Andhra Pradesh Bar Council. He handled writ and civil cases in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. He had worked as a Government pleader in 1988-90. He briefly worked as Additional Standing Counsel for the Central Government in 1990 and was also the legal adviser and standing counsel for Osmania University.

He became a permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in 1995. He was appointed the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court in 2005. He became a Supreme Court judge in 2007; retired in 2011. Justice Sudarshan Reddy became the first Lokayukta of Goa in 2013.
