
Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan has been elected as 15th Vice-President of India
New Delhi: Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan has been elected as 15th Vice-President of India on Tuesday. Rajya Sabha Secretary General PV Mody declared that Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan was elected as the office of the Vice President of India.
He won with a margin of 152 vote’s majority against Justice B Sudarshan Reddy, the INDI alliance candidate. There were 781 MPs in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha to cast their votes in the Vice-Presidential elections. Out of 781 MPs 767 MPs exercised their votes and 15 votes were invalid.
The NDA alliance CP Radhakrishnan secured 452 first preferential votes and his rival INDI alliance candidate Justice B Sudarshan Reddy secured 300 votes. MPs casted their votes on Tuesday from 10 am to 6 pm. The officials started counting of votes at 6 pm and declared the results at 7.30 pm. The NDA alliance candidate CP Radhakrishnan got 15 additional votes through cross voting from the opposition INDI alliance.
As per the strengths in both houses NDA is having 427 and INDI alliance is having 324 MPs. But INDI alliance got only 300 votes.
President Draupadi Murmu, PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and other Union Ministers, LoP Rahul Gandhi, AICC Kharge, YSRCP Chief YS Jagan congratulated the newly elected Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan.
