Modi Opens Kartarpur Corridor
Dera Baba Nanak: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kartarpur corridor on Saturday by flagging off the first batch of Sikh pilgrims. Narendra Modi inaugurated the corridor along with former Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal. These three leaders flagged off the first batch of 500 Sikh pilgrims.
The corridor links with Guru Darbar Saheb in Pakistan, the final resting place of Sikkism founder Guru Nanak Dev, to Dera Baba Nanak shrine in this Punjab district. This corridor was opened on the eve of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev on November 12th.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the passenger terminal building of the corridor in India, also known as the integrated Check Post, where pilgrims will get clearance to travel through the newly built 4.5km long corridor. The union government had entered an agreement with the Pakistan government on October 24th on the modalities for operationalization of the corridor and zero point of the international boundary at Dera Baba Nanak.
Punjab Chief Minister Amarendra Singh Former Chief Minister of Punjab Prakash Singh Badal, Sukhdheer singh Badal and Navjyoth Singh Siddu, Siromani Gurudwara Prabandak committee members and all the 117 MLAs and MPs from Punjab were also part of the “Jatha” in the first batch of pilgrims. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in the community kitchen along with Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore, Amarendra Singh and State Congress president Sunil Jakhar Modi, who doned a Safforn color turban was shown a model of the Kartarpur Corridor.
