New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu conferred Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honour, to former Prime Ministers P V Narasimha Rao and Chaudhary Charan Singh, Agriculture Scientist M S Swaminathan and former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur on Saturday, at a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

President Draupadi Murmu is going to former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani’s residence on Sunday to confer the the country’s highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna award. He is the only person receiving the award in person today from President.

Bharat Ratna awards conferred them after posthumously. Their kins received the awards from President Draupadi Murmu. V Prabhakar Rao, son of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, received the award conferred on his father from the President. Jayant Chaudhary, Charan Singh’s grandson and the President of the RLD, accepted the honour from Murmu.

MS Swaminathan’s daughter Nitya Rao and Thakur’s son Ram Nath Thakur received the award from the President. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries were present at the ceremony.
