AICC Chief Elections will be held on Monday

New Delhi: The AICC is set to have its internal election on Monday at AICC office in New Delhi and as well as in the State party offices. Congress senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor are contesting for the post of AICC Chief.

The Gandhi family was not contesting in the election and left the post to non-Gandhi family members, after over 20 years. Both contestants for the AICC Chief post reiterated that the non-involvement of the Gandhi’s in the party’s internal elections. One of the contestant candidates Shashi Tharoor pointed what he called difference in treatment, bias and an uneven playing field.

Another contestant Kharge has declared that he believes in collective decision-making and would take the guidance of the Gandhis. They have done good for this country. Their advice will benefit the party, so I will definitely seek their advice and support. There is no shame in it, he said.

Over 9K State Congress Committee leaders are expected to vote today. This would be the sixth actual election after Independence in the 137 year old party. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were elected unopposed in every election.
