Amit Shah tested Covid- 19 positive, admitted in a private hospital in Gurugaon

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah was tested Covid- 19 positive and was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugaon on Sunday. Amit Shah on Sunday in a tweet at 4.43 pm said that “My health is fine, but I am being admitted to hospital on the advice of doctors”.

According to the sources, Amit Shah (55) got himself tested after showing symptoms and added that he was stable. All those who came in contact with him in the last few days have been advised to isolated and get tested if they had symptoms. Shah had attended the last cabinet meeting at Prime Minister’s house, but Government sources emphasized “Social distancing” was strictly followed on such occasions, with the attendees having to mandatory wear masks.

A strict protocol has been inforce at the PM’s residence during the last few months, said the source. Temperature checks and Aarogya Setu checks are mandatory and internal cars are not allowed, contrary to the practice in pre- Covid times, for ferrying visitors in the PM’s official residence. Physical meetings are mostly avoided and virtual interactions are preferred. Shah in his tweet said, I request all of you who came in contact with me in the last few days to isolate yourselves and get tested.

Home Secretary A.K. Bhalla has decided to get tested, it is learnt. While Minister of State for Environment Babul Suprio, who had recently met Shah, said he has isolated himself. As a Home Minister and a key person in the BJP, Shah keeps a tight schedule, holding multiple interactions during the day. He has diabetes, one of the Comorbidities known to raise the risk of complications in the Covid- 19 patients. This was the reason; doctors said it was decided to get him admitted to hospital even though he was stable.
