Amaravathi: Andhra Pradesh have topped the three rare special butterflies for list of contestants in the race to get the “National Tag”. The three species from Andhra Pradesh which are in the race for the “National Butterfly’ tag are unique to Andhra Pradesh’s Papikondalu National Park.

The contest was launched on September 11 and will end on October eight. The “National Butterfly” of India will be declared in 2021.

Seven butterfly species common Jezebel, Orange Oak leaf, Common Nawab, Krishna Peacock, Five bar sword Tail, Northern Jungle Queen and Yellow Gorgon, have found a spot in the final list of contenders.

Three southern states Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala have already declared their states butterflies. Karnataka went for southern Bird wings, Kerala chose Malabar Banded Peacock, while Tamil Nadu declared Tamil Yeoman.
