Celebs, Activists Join Chorus for Arrest of Police in Custody Death Case

Madurai: The Celebrities, activists and corporate heads expressed protest on Tamil Nadu police and Sathankulam magistrate D. Sarvanan for the brutal in custody of a father-son duo P. Jayaraj and Beniks at Sathankulam police station in Tuticorin district.

This brutal torture murders occurred on June 19th night and there subsequent death in judicial custody at Kovilpatti two days later. The celebrities, activists and corporate heads calling it a “Goerge Floyd Movement” for India, they have demanded to file a case of murder and arrest the inspector, two SI’s and as many constables allegedly involved in the case.

Industrialist Anand Mahindra in his tweet said that this is not my India. The only way to handle this is through a swift, fair, transparent investigation and equally swift delivery of justice. Several Bollywood stars i.e., Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma and Tapsi Pannu sought justice for the victims. Kin and action against the police personnels.

 

Tuticorin SP Arun Bala gopalan has filed a report, the preliminary postmortem findings are still to be submitted to the high court. The postmortem report had been done at Tirunalveli medical college hospital three days ago. The court is scheduled to hear the case on next June 30. On Friday, the court directed Kovilpatti judicial magistrate M S Bharati Dasan to conduct the inquest and DSP M Jabaras to investigate the case.

After this the court asked the Tuticorin SP why the inspector, two sub inspectors and two constables hadn’t been booked for murder. The SP Bala Gopalan replied that further course of action could be decided only on the basis of the court’s order.
