Modi revives SAARC for fight against Covid-19

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi significantly proposed that the leadership of SAARC Nations chalk out a strong strategy to fight Corona virus. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that we could discuss, via video conferencing, ways to keep our citizens healthy.

Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan and Sri Lanka responded immediately with enthusiasm. India was monitoring what Islamabad reaction would be, though some were cautious not to expect much from SAARC as a forum in the near future.

Nepal’s PM K.P. Sharma Oli in a response to Modi’s tweet said that my Government is ready to work closely with SAARC members States to protect our citizens from this deadly disease. Responding Modi’s tweet, Maldives President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih said in a tweet “Thank You PM @ Narendra Modi” for taking the initiatives on this important endvour. The Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in his tweet said that thank you for the great initiative “Sri @ Narendra Modi…” let’s unite in solidarity during this trying times.

Due to India and Pakistan tension SAARC has been inaction since 2016, the Pakistan hosted SAARC Summit on the year was cancelled after India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Bhutan pulled out.
