Farooq Abdullah released from detention

New Delhi: J & K, former Chief Minister, Lok Sabha member Farooq Abdullah released on Friday, after seven months house arrest. “Today I don’t have words, the way I feel today, I am free…” said Farooq Abdullah after his release from the detention under Public Safety Act (PSA).

He also said that this freedom would not be complete unless all the leaders were freed from detention. The person, who detained under PSA, will be detained for upto two years without trail. He said that he will not speak on political matters until everyone else is released, who emerged in all- black from his home in Srinagar. He also urged that let us pray to God that we get true freedom for which we have been trying for so long.

He was detained along with several leaders in J & K including his son Omar Abdullah, PDP Supremo Mehaboob Mufti, former Chief Ministers of J & K on August 5th. They are detained after imposed Article 370 in the state under security restrictions and a communication lockdown. He was charged under PSA with ‘disturbing public order’. This was the first time that the PSA, used against terrorists, separatists or stone-throwers, was used on a mainstream politician, especially an MP and a three-time Chief Minister.
