Jagan announced Rs. 1 crore exgratia to the kin of the deceased in gas leakage incident

Vishakhapatnam: The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy announced an exgratia of Rs. 1 crore to each victim’s family members, who died due to the gas leakage of LG Polymers in Vishakhapatnam.

He rushed to the Vishakhapatnam from Amaravathi at 10.30 am on Thursday. LG Polymers officials met the Chief Minister at the airport and explained the gas leakage incident to the Chief Minister. He expressed angry over the incident to the polymer officials. Later went to King George Hospital in Vishakhapatnam where the victims were undergoing treatment. He asked the doctors and the District Authorities about the incident and the assistance provided to the victims.

He personally visited the wards and consoled the victims and assured the Government’s assistance to the victims and their families. He appreciated the Collector V. Vinay Chand, Police Commissioner R.K. Meena and other officials, who took part in the rescue operations to save the victims. Nearly 11 persons died in the gas leakage incident and 22 including 10 ten kids are in critical condition, said the Health officials.

The Government evacuated 10K people living within a radius of 5 Kms of LG plant. 8oo people were shifted to hospitals and many have since being discharged. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy announced the financial assistance to the patients who are on the ventilators Rs. 10 lakhs, the victims who are admitted for treatment upto three to four days with a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh. As well as the victims who get treatment in the OP is eligible to get compensation of Rs. 25K. The persons who lived in the locality compensated for each Rs. 10K.

The Government also provided Rs. 25K for their household expenses, said Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Apart from the exgratia and compensation Y.S. Jagan announced Aarogya Sri medical insurance facility will be extended to all those affected by the gas leak. According to the sources that 5K people complained rashes on the body and burning sensation in the eyes. As many as 316 people were admitted to hospital. The victims were shifted to atleast 10 main hospitals i.e. KGH, soon turned into medical emergency centres treating scores of people, who fell unconscious and hundreds of others with complaints of breathlessness, severe headache and nausea.
