Goddess Kanaka Durga incarnation as Mahishasura Mardini at Indrakeeladri

Hyderabad: On the eve of Dusshera celebrations the temples of Goddess Durga is celebrating Durga Astami and Mahar Navami on Thursday (today). Goddess Kanaka Durga fought with the demon Mahishasura since eight days with various weapons and finally she killed the demon Mahishasura on the eighth day of Ashwayuja Suddha Astami.

She saved the seers and sadhus, women, childrens and all innocents who were torched by the Mahishasura for several years by killing demon. That is why people celebrates the victory of Kanaka Durga as Durga Astami and also called this as victory of good over evil. The next day is called Mahar Navami, this day mainly performs poojas to the weapons which Goddess Kanaka Durga in the battle to kill Mahishasura.

It also called as the Day of Ayudapuja. In the past Kings and the Emperors used to perform poojas to their weapons on this day and then they will go for war with other kingdoms for expansion of their empire. Now a days the police and other armed forces performing poojas to their weapons on Mahar Navami. The concluding day of Dusshera celebrations the people will celebrate the 10th day Ashwayuja Dasami called as Vijaya Dasami and perform poojas to Goddess Kanaka Durga as incarnation of Raja Rajeshwari Devi.

Devotees organize a chariot procession of Raja Rajeshwari Devi with joy and devotion in their villages, towns etc, as a mark of the death of evil King Mahishasura.
