HC fines two Collectors for contempt of the Court

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court imposed fined two IAS officers and one RDO for contempt of Court. High Court Justice M.S. Ramchandra Rao imposed a fine Rs. 2, 000 on P. Venkatarami Reddy District Collector, Siddipeta and another IAS officer Krishna Bhasker, the then Collector of Siddipeta district and now is working Siricilla District Collector.

The two IAS officers and RDO are willful disobedience of Court orders in acquiring some extent of land in Vemula Ghat village of Siddipet district during the construction of the Mallanna Sagar reservoir. The Court also ordered that the two IAS officers to be paid the fine within four weeks, if they failed to pay the fine they would have to undergo imprisonment for one month. The Judge also sentenced a two months imprisonment and fine of Rs. 2, 000 on Jayachandra Reddy, RDO cum SDC for Kaleshwaram Project Unit-III.

The sentence of imprisonment was suspended for four weeks to enable the respondent officials to make an appeal before the Court. Despite Court directions to take objection from petitioners without supplying the detailed project report to land owners before declaring an award for land acquisition, the authorities under took an agreement from land owners directly for voluntary acquisition. The authorities also issued a declaration of land acquisition. A contempt case was filed before the High Court the action of willful disobedience Court orders by the authorities.
