India’s Stood After US and Brazil in Covid-19 Cases

New Delhi: India now has the third highest Covid-19 infected country in the world after over taking Russia on Sunday. Even as the new infections in the country goes to another record high of nearly 25,000 during the day, India also recorded 421 new deaths from the virus, taking the toll to over 2300 in the five days of this month alone.

The India’s Covid-19 tally reached to 697887 late on Sunday, as per the data available from state governments. During the course of the day, the count went past Russia’s current infected cases of 681251, as per the Worlddometer website. Now India is a third country in the registering of Covid-19 cases after US and Brazil.

As many as 24912 new cases emerged in India on Sunday, taking the count in the five days of July so far to over one lakh. The country witnessed a little over four lakh cases in June; this is the worst month of the pandemic in the country so far. Fresh cases have touch record highs on each of the past four days, starting with 22,045 cases reported in July 02, with the daily tally of infections in Assam (1202), UP (1155) crossing over for the first time, a record seven states repeated cases in four figures on Sunday.

As usual, Maharashtra had the highest count of 6555 its second highest tally after new cases on Sunday had crossed 7000. Apart from Assam and UP, Karnataka (1935), AP (998), Bengal (895), Gujarat (725), Rajasthan (632) were among the states recorded their highest single day jump in cases. In Tamil Nadu, the number of new cases dropped below 2000 cases for the second day in a row in Chennai.
