JNU Students Protest March from Mandi House: Police Detained the Students

New Delhi: Delhi Police stopped the huge protest march by students of JNU by lathicharge and large scale detentions. The students, faculties and the civilians took a protest march from Mandi house to Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday evening. After the detention of students, stopped the protest march by the police in the mid-way, the students shouting slogans “Police Murdabad”.

The police dragged away the marching students and packed into buses. Several students were injured and the police packed them in three buses.  Students, teachers and civil society groups started the protest march, including CPM General secretary Sitaram Yechuri, CPI leader Raja, Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat and Sharad Yadav on Thursday afternoon from Mandi house.

They planned to go to the offices of the HRD ministers and submit a memorandum regarding Sunday’s mob attack at the university campus and their demand for the resignation of the university’s vice-chancellor. After the meeting with the HRD officials, the JNU student’s Union leader Aishe Ghosh, decided to move towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The police not allowed the protestors not to go to Rashtrapati Bhavan and stopped the procession, detained the students.
