Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandra Sekhar Rao urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday to extend the national wide lock down beyond April 14, when the three week national wide lock down comes to an end.

In his address in a press conference at Pragathi Bhavan, he said that he proposes that the lock down be extended by atleast one or two weeks and then we can take a call on ending it. We can recover from a hit to our economy but we can’t bring back lives of people, he said. A civilized society couldn’t bear pain, trauma and tragedy of a large scale human loss. A lock down is the only weapon that India has, given our weak infrastructure as a developing country, he said. The lock down is impacting all sections of society and economy at large.

But Covid- 19 is the biggest crisis faced by all of mankind and calls for unprecedented measures, said KCR. He revealed that during his conversation with the Prime Minister on Sunday he requested him to ascertain opinions of all Chief Ministers regarding the lifting of the lock down. Even a partial lifting of lockdown after April 14 was not so easy and it will prove to be a gigantic task to control people, he added. He said that lock down was the only weapon to contain the pandemic and he will request the PM to not hesitate in existing lock down.

He was irked with misrepresentation on social media and by certain news agencies in carrying his appeal to Prime Minister on extension of national wide lock down. KCR was referring to recommendations by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), wherein, in one possible scenario it recommended that a lock down was require upto June, because India does not have sufficient medical infrastructure and man power.
