Local Body Elections in AP Postponed for Six Weeks: N Ramesh Kumar

Vijayawada: The AP Election Commissioner N. Ramesh Kumar postponed the local body election schedule for six weeks, due to the Corona Virus spreading in the country. Speaking in a press conference on Sunday he said that the Union Government noticed the Covid-19 as a national disaster.

In the wake of the Corona Virus, for the safety of the public health the EC took the decision of the postponement of local body elections in the state. The completed process of nomination of ZPTC, MPTC and Municipalities will be treated as completed process. ZPTC, MPTC and Municipalities polling only postponed for six weeks and the new polling dates will be announced.

As well as the Gram Panchayat election schedule in two phases which has commence from today will be scheduled later after six weeks, after reviewing the situation of Corona Virus in the state. The people who elected unanimously in the ZPTC’s, MPTC’s will be continued. The EC not cancelled the election process, only the process was postponed for six weeks in the interest of the public health and as well as the polling personnels.
