Modi announces interim assistance Rs. 1, 000 crore to West Bengal: Rs. 500 crore to Odisha

Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs. 1, 000 crore to West Bengal, for the assistance of rehabilitation and reconstruction damaged caused by the Amphan cyclone. Modi reviewed the ravaged cyclone damage in the West Bengal on Friday at Basirhat on North 24 Parganas districts after the aerial survey.

We all want West Bengal to move ahead, the centre will always stand with West Bengal in these testing times. We will work together to ensure that Bengal stands on its feets again, said Modi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted aerial survey along with Chief Minister Mamatha Benerjee and Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar. Modi announced Rs.Two lakhs exgratia to the family members, who lost lives in the cyclone. He also announced Rs. 50K for the injured in the cyclone.

In West Bengal nearly 80 persons died in the cyclone. Chief Minister Mamatha Benerjee urged the Prime Minister to give full support and help to reconstruct and rehabilitation works in the cyclone affected six districts in the state. “I am here to assure everyone in Bengal that in this time of crisis you will find the central government fully there standing beside you shoulder to shoulder,” he said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamatha Benerjee told to Prime Minister that the state has suffered losses to the tune of Rs 1 lakh crore due to Cyclone Amphan. “In this hour of crisis, we all must work together. I have told PM Modi in detail about post-cyclone situation in Bengal,” she said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs. 500 crore as an advance to the state of Odisha to assist the rehabilitation works in the state due to the damage caused by the Amphan cyclone. Ahead of PM Modi’s visit, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik spoke with Ms Benerjee today and assured all possible support to overcome the crisis triggered by the cyclone. The cyclone also caused widespread devastation in Odisha, damaging power and telecom infrastructure in several coastal districts. Officials of the Odisha Government estimated that it has affected around 44.8 lakh people in the state. Mamata Benerjee was seated some distance away from PM Modi during his briefing.
