Modi to Launch Rs. 50, 000 Cr Job Plan for Migrant Workers in Six States

New Delhi: The NDA government unveiled a Rs. 50,000 Cr plan to provide jobs for returning migrant workers on Thursday. PM Narendra Modi will launch the plan under the government’s “Garib Kalyan Rojgar Yojana” through video conference on June 20 from a village in Khagariya dist in Bihar.

This scheme will be benefited to the migrant workers across 116 districts in six states. The districts have been selected based on surveys conducted by states with a cut-off of 25 thousand migrants to qualify under the proposed mission. The 125 day campaign wills involved intensified and focused implementation of 25 different types of works to provide employment to migrant workers and create infrastructure in the rural areas, said finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman.

Speaking to the media persons in a press conference she said that this (Rs. 50,000 Cr) is part of the budget. We are convergence, we are frontloading, she said. It is directly tying up with all the migrant workers who have reached their districts, all of them are going to result in assest creation, she said.

Center had decided to launch this massive rural public works scheme to mitigate the migrant workers difficulties during the next four months, she said. She also said that Bihar is the top in the scheme with 32 districts, followed by UP with 31, and the other states Madhya Pradesh, Rajashthan and Odisha. These 116 districts are estimated to cover 2/3rd of migrants, she said.
