BJP women MPs staged protests in the well: on Rahul’s ‘Rape’ remarks
New Delhi: The BJP leaders led a protest in the Lok Sabha on Friday demanding an apology from Rahul Gandhi, on his words “Rape in India”, which he said in a election rally in Jharkhand. Defense Minister Raj Nath Singh said that leaders like him have no moral right in Parliament.
Rahul Gandhi said that he will never apologize to BJP led Government, and instead demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that Modi had called Delhi the “Rape Capital” during the UPA period. He also sought the PM’s response on why he had destroyed the economy and had “Snatched Jobs” from young people. The BJP women MPs, who protest are assembled near the well to attack Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha. This caused to stall the Lok Sabha regular business and forced Speaker Om Birla to adjourn the proceedings twice. Friday was the last day of the Parliament Winter session. DMK MP Kanimozhi defended Rahul Gandhi as Congress members also came out their seats in protest, asked the Speaker to take up Question Hour.
The protests began as soon as the house assembled. Tearing into the Congress leader, Union Ministers Smriti Irani said he “Insulted” women and men in India and claimed his remarks amounted to inviting people to rape women. Irani said that he should be punished and also seeking his apology.
