CAA protesters attacked on rail stations in West Bengal

Kolkata: The protests against the NRC, CAA spread violence from Assam to West Bengal on Friday. The demonstrated attacked the crowded Coromandel Express and began arson and looting private property in two districts.

  The protesters attacks caused to an elderly man’s death in a district at India- Bangladesh border and an attack on a BJP senior leader. The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamatha Benerjee, who announced a TMC rally against NRC and CAA on Sunday, has appealed the people to maintain peace. At around 3.22 pm a mob of nearly 300 people came on railway tracks of both up and down lines and started pelting stones on the Chennai-Coromandel Express, bringing to a grinding halt Uluberia in Howrah- Karagpur section of the SER. After departure from Howrah at 2.50 pm. The train driver and a railway employee injured in the incident.

  Panicked by the sudden attack, the passengers closed the windows and doors of the coaches. Six trains: Howrah-Digha Kandari Express, Shalimar-LTT Kurla Express, Hyderabad- Howrah East Coast Express, Yesvantpur- Howrah Duranto Express, Shalimar- Adrarajya Rani Express and Jaipur Humsafar Express were halted midway and 11 EMU local and passengers train have been detained and controlled at various sections due to the violent attack.
