Two people died in police open fire in Mangaluru against CAA

Bengaluru/ Mangaluru: Two men were killed in police firing in the heart of the Coastal town of Mangaluru where protesters are agitating protests in Karnataka against Citizenship Amendment Act on Thursday. The two dead Jaleel (49) of Kudroli and Nausheen of Bengre (23) who sustained serious injuries in the police firing rushed to the hospital, were declared dead after about an hour.

   Curfew was imposed across the five jurisdictions of five police stations of Mangaluru Central Sub Division after a mob attacked police. Protests turned violent at private bus stand at Bunder saw pitched battles between police and protesters. The mob had re-assembled at RR Circle, about 200 meters from the city bus stand, launched another attack on the police but was dispersed again with the help of additional forces. The mob again gathered at Kudroli and pelted stones and bottles on police, said police sources.

  Ramachandra Guha, historian and author were joined by 200 protesters in their “Naavu Bharatiyaru” and “Hum Bharath Ke Log” agitation were rounded up by the police and taken away in buses as they refused to disperse. Ramachandra Guha was taken into custody by police were he was talking to the media outside the Town Hall, condemning the Union Government for introducing a Legislation like the CAA.

   Large number of teenagers, young women and volunteers were dragged into buses by the police. There were reports of three cops manhandling a girl student and of another student suffering a dislocated shoulder in a scuffle with police.
