Second wave of Covid -19 is termed as national crisis: Supreme Court

New Delhi: The Supreme Court termed the second wave of Covid -19 as a national crisis and wanted the Government, police chiefs and other authorities against silencing the people and their SOS on the presumption that these were false grievances, said Supreme Court Judge Justice DY Chandrachud video hearing on Covid – 19 situation on Friday.

The Supreme Court on Friday said that any attempt to clamp down on free flow of information on social media, including calls for help, would be treated as contempt of court. A bench headed by Justice Chandrachud said that there should be free flow of information; we should hear voices of citizens.

If any action is taken against such posts by citizens in distress, we will treat it as contempt of the court, said the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court last week decided to take up subjects related to the Covid – 19 crises in the country, including problems related to oxygen, medicines, vaccines and hospital beds.
