YSRCP MPs stalled Rajya Sabha for Special Status to Andhra Pradesh

New Delhi: YSRCP MPs staged protests and stalled the house in Rajya Sabha at noon on Tuesday. YSRCP Parliamentary party leader V Vijayasai Reddy gave a notice to the Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu and asked to allow their notice to discuss special status for Andhra Pradesh under Rule 267.

Rajya Sabha activities on Tuesday on the issue of guaranteeing Special Status to Andhra Pradesh came to a standstill till noon. Congress deputy leader Anand Sharma also asked the court to allow the notice given under Rule 267.

Responding to this, Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu said that 15 members had issued notices today under Rule 267, which contained a number of national priorities but could not be allowed for discussion at present.
Vijayasai Reddy said that special status for Andhra Pradesh was also a matter of national importance and questioned when it would be allowed to be discussed.

He was asked what respect was given to the Constitution when the laws and guarantees given in the house were not respected. The Chairman responded that there was no argument on this and that the matter was with you and the Central Government. With this, YSRCP MPs along with Vijayasai Reddy held placards and protested at the podium.

At one stage Vijayasai Reddy angrily tore the papers in his hand. The chairman adjourned for an hour due to chaos in the House. The meeting was adjourned again till 12 noon after the same situation prevailed. Even after the assembly reconvened at one o’clock, members of the YSRCP MPs held placards and protested at the podium.

Vijayasai Reddy, Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, Mopidevi Venkataramana Rao, Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy and Ayodhya Rami Reddy displayed placards and chanted slogans. Placards show that the promise of special status to Andhra Pradesh should be fulfilled, that the Polavaram project is the right of Andhra Pradesh and that the Vizag steel plant was set up not for sale.

Leader of the House Piyush Goyal intervened at this stage and said to Vijayasai Reddy, you are very senior members of the house. You know how much Covid – 19 are creating chaos. The House is ready to discuss such a very important issue.

The Government is ready to discuss issues related to your State. So create a congenial atmosphere in the House and cooperate to continue the debate. I urge you to stop worrying and take part in the discussion.

YSR‌CP MPs at the podium chanted slogans that justice should be done to the AP the House adjourned again for a quarter of an hour as it could not proceed. The Rajya Sabha then convened a short debate on Covid – 19.
