Disha Bill passes in AP Assembly

Vijayawada: The AP Assembly passed the Disha Bill on Friday, which will punish culprits in 21 days to provide justice speedily to the victims of specified offenses against women and children.

   The YSRCP member hailed the bill as historical and unique. The AP Assembly passed the bill unanimously; the opposition TDP also supported the bill. The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy claimed that the AP Disha Bill Criminal Law (AP Amendment) Act-2019. The bill will help to reduce the crimes in AP, he said. The house also passed the AP Special Courts for specified offenses against women and children bill. The Disha bill prescribes the death penalty for rape where there is conclusive evidence, and this needs amendment to section 376 of the IPC. The bill stipulates a period of 21 working days per the case.

   The investigation in the case being completed in seven days, and trail closing in 14 days. The AP Disha bill prescribes life imprisonment for sexual offenses against children.
