Covid- 19 infections crossed 15 lakhs in India on Tuesday

New Delhi: Covid- 19 cases surge in the country went pass the 15 Lakh mark on Tuesday, with the last five lakh cases having come in just 12 days, even as the country reported its second biggest jump in infections and the highest death toll of 781 in a single day.

After a slow surge on Monday fresh cases again rose 49, 292 on Tuesday, the highest daily count after Sunday’s record of over 50K as per the Government data. Deaths recorded during the day went past the previous single day high of 757 on July 24th. The country’s case load is the third highest in the world after the US 44.3 lakhs and Brazil 24.4 lakh cases. Russia has the fourth largest count of cases at 8.2 lakhs as per the worldometers.info website.

For the first time in week, Maharashtra did not register the highest daily cases. It was dislodged by Andhra Pradesh which recorded 7, 948 fresh cases as against Maharashtra’s 7, 717. Fresh infections surged in the country although just three states, Karnataka 5, 536 new cases, Kerala 1, 167 and Punjab 612 recorded their highest single day jump in cases. Fresh cases in Maharashtra, which had dropped by nearly 1, 500 to 7, 924 on Monday dipped further.

However, several other big states reported fresh cases close to their highest yet, with Tamil Nadu registered 6, 792 infections, UP recorded 3, 490, Bihar 2, 480, West Bengal 12, 134 and Assam 1, 348. With the highest jump in cases in the country, Andhra Pradesh cumulative case load rose to 1, 10, 297. AP now has the fifth largest case load of Covid- 19 cases, behind Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Karnataka.

AP also reported 58 deaths on Tuesday while the toll climbed to 1, 148, about 3K people have recovered from Covid- 19. There are currently 56, 527 active cases with the 52, 622 cumulative recoveries and 1, 148 deaths.
