Imphal: Indian Weightlifter and Olympic Silver medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu received a warm welcome in Imphal on Tuesday. She reached the Imphal after a spectacular performance in the ongoing Tokyo Olympic Games – 2021.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh went to Imphal airport to welcome her. Mirabai Chanu arrived in Imphal amid a roaring welcome by the locals. Thousands of people had gathered in Imphal to welcome her. Mirabai Chanu, India’s first medal winner at the Tokyo Olympics was felicitated by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur on Monday.

Manipur Government on Monday had decided to appoint Chanu as Additional Superintendent of Police (Sports) in the police department. Manipur CM Biren Singh told the media person that his Government announced a reward of Rs One Crore.

Olympian Judoka Likmabam Sushila Devi would be promoted from the post of Constable to Sub-Inspector, he said. The CM said that all the participants would be given Rs 25 lakh each. He also said the State Government had decided to establish a world class weightlifting academy in the State soon.
