Protesters can’t block road: SC

New Delhi: Protests can’t be for indefinite period, there must be an area identified for protest, said a Division bench’s Judges Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice K.M. Joseph on Monday. The bench issued a notice to the Centre and Delhi Government on two petitions seeking eviction of the protesters.

Protests cannot go on indefinitely and those protesting against the CAA at Shaheenbagh in New Delhi can’t block the road and cause inconvenient to the public. The bench also said that there is a law and people have grievances against it. The matter is pending in Court. Despite that, some people are protesting. They are entitled to protest. The bench also said that can you block a public road? You cannot block it. Suppose there is Public Park, you cannot hold protest there.

The bench heard the petitions filed by Amit Sahni and Nanda Kishore Garg, a BJP leader seeking directions for the removal of protesters, those who have been protesting since December 15, 2019. The Court declined to pass any interim order as urged by advocates for the petitioners.
