Sachin Pilot Expelled From the Cabinet

Jaipur: Rajasthan Congress Party sacked rebel leader Sachin Pilot as Deputy Chief Minister and removed from the party chief of Rajasthan Congress committee on Tuesday. He along with two cabinet ministers who are loyal to Sachin Pilot in the revolt against the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was sacked from the Ashok Gehlot ministry.

The development came after the Rajasthan Congress Legislature party’s second meeting on Tuesday. After the RCLP meeting, the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot rushed to the Raj Bhavan and met Governor Kalraj Mishra and explained about the resolution passed by the CLP for the ex-person of Sachin Pilot from the post of the Deputy Chief Minister and two other ministers in his cabinet.

He assured the Governor, he will prove strength in the assembly floor test for his government. “The truth can be harassed but not defeated,” Sachin Pilot reacted in a tweet. His supporters said the “public humiliation” of their leader was “totally unacceptable” to them and those who treated him badly should be punished. Before Sachin Pilot’s revolt, the Congress had 107 MLAs and the support of 13 independents and five from smaller parties. That number has now come down to 90 Congress MLAs, seven independent members and three from smaller parties 100.

One ally, Bhartiya Tribal Party (BTP), which has two MLAs in the Rajasthan assembly, has withdrawn support from the Congress. One of its MLAs, Rajkumar Roat, posted a video alleging that the police were not letting him move from the resort and had taken his car keys. “It is a hostage-like situation,” he alleged.

The feud between the Congress’s top two in Rajasthan peaked when Mr Pilot was asked to answer questions in an investigation into an alleged attempt to destabilize the state government ahead of last month’s Rajya Sabha elections. Chief Minister Gehlot said he too had received it, but Mr Pilot’s aides pointed out that as state home minister in charge of the Special Operations Group, Mr Gehlot had practically given himself the summons.

The BJP, which had kept a cautious eye on the Congress turmoil so far, made the first big move today. The party said Mr Gehlot must face a floor test and dispatched a leader, Om Mathur, to Jaipur.
