A tiger kept in a special enclosure in Van Vihar: for killing three humans

Bhopal: The Zoo authorities declared a five year old tiger dangerous to human life in compliance with the 2019 NTCA guidelines, which has killed three humans in the past and decided to keep it in an enclosure.

The Zoo authorities was tranquilized in Kanha Nation Park and shifted to Van Vihar in Bhopal on Saturday, where it’s likely to be kept in solidarity confinement. The five year old tiger, with a weight of 180 Kg male had wandered 510 Km, from Chandrapur in Maharashtra to Palasapani in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul.

The tiger killed three humans on the way in search of new territory between August and December in 2018. Sathpura Tiger Reserve officials captured the tiger from near a fly ash pond on Sarni area on December 10th, 2018 and shifted to Kanha, where it was kept in an enclosure for around 45 days.

The Kanha team arrived to Van Vihar at 10.30 am on Saturday. It will take some time for the tiger to adjust and ease its aggression CZA will decide if it will be put on display. The Van Vihar Director said that we will write to the authorities on the display issue. The tiger’s first human kill was reported in Mangrul Lal Dastagir in Maharashtra on October 19 followed by a second on October 22nd in Anjansingi.

Both attacks took place in Amaravathi District of Maharashtra. It continued to prey on cattle as it prowled close to human settlements. The third kill was reported near Sathpura Tiger Reserve about 200 Kms from Bhopal. The Van Vihar will be its new home now, Van Vihar currently having houses of 14 tigers, but only four are on display.

The others are either dangerous or were rescued as orphans and are kept in separate cages away from the tens of thousands of visitors.
